WBM Features: Jeantrix Clothing Co.

Living at risk is jumping off the cliff and building your wings on the way down.
-Ray Bradbury

When comes to matters of our goals and dreams, it not only takes particular state of mind to attain them, but it also requires that we take risk. These risks oftentimes include making a significant amount of sacrifice. Now whether that's in the form of time or any other number of things that could potentially pull us away from our friends and family, the effort to reach our ideal of success, requires much of us.

What then is required of you to get what you need for success?

Success, on the other hand, isn't something that's foreign to our next WBM Feature, Homm and Nyce of Jeantrix Clothing Co. Hailing from Pennsylvania, this dynamic duo has combined their efforts, maximized their creativity, while taking risk and making sacrifice where necessary to become one of the most sought after designers in the world of fashion.

From establishing themselves as stand outs in the industry, running a business, dressing a number of people from all over to gracing the pages of major publications, including L.A. Times and Elle Magazine, and showing their work in New York Fashion Week, the impact Jeantrix makes is a lasting one. Allow them to make one with you.

[As Told To Why Blue Matters]

Who is Jeantrix?

Jeantrix is made up of two designers (Nyce & Homm).

Where are you from?

Jeantrix: Homm is from Philadelphia, and Nyce is from Chester PA.

What can you most attribute your high sense of fashion to?

Jeantrix: Our high fashion sense comes mainly from our creativity. You really have to be born with fashion sense, its not something you can fake. We also have very random minds so that helps lol.

What does fashion mean to you?

Jeantrix: Fashion to us is everything! Clothing is your presentation to the world of how you feel on the inside. People are often judged on how they look, sad to say. It also gives people a first impression about you.

How long have you been involved in fashion?

Jeantrix: We have always had a passion for clothing, however we started making our own clothing in 2003. The clothing line was created the following year.

How did you develop Jeantrix?

Jeantrix: It started out as us making clothes for ourselves. We started getting a lot of orders so we created the clothing line in 2004. In 2006 we landed our first fashion show. After that we were requested to be in hundreds of shows, which helped us as far as promotion and sales. Every year since then we consciously make improvements on anything that is lacking in the company.

What inspires and motivates you?

Jeantrix: True inspiration comes from any and everything! From the shape of a building to trash on the ground (we actually had a collection that had trash embellished pieces). When you limit where your inspiration comes from then you limit your creativity.

What goes into the design of one of your pieces?

Jeantrix: It depends on which piece. One piece in our current collection took around 2 weeks to make. It has a large amount of beading, crystals and many other ornaments that are top secret! lol

Biggest Accomplishment?

Jeantrix: This year has been a very good year for us. God has truly blessed us and we cant thank Him enough. Besides dressing celebrities and being in Elle magazine I think our biggest accomplishment is showcasing our collection during New York Fashion Week.

Do you feel you are successful?

Jeantrix: We feel as if we are successful. In order to be successful you have to think of yourself as such. We are no where near the level we want to be on, there is always room for improvement and we will not stop until we take over the world!

What type of impact would you like to make with your works?

Jeantrix: We want to bring back the fun of vintage clothing. Back in the 80's clothes were fun and people took risks when it comes to fashion. We want to impact and inspire any and everyone to be more daring when it comes to clothing. We want to spark the imagination of the youth so that the future will be in good hands when it comes to clothing.

Who have you worked with so far?

Jeantrix: As far as celebrities we have worked with Fat Joe, Jackie long, Tila Tequila, Rasheeda, Bj Coleman, Audrey Kitching, Lola luv, Dondria, Bianca Chardei (America's Next Top Model) just to name a few (we have a few projects coming up with one of the biggest celebrities in the world). As far as publications we have worked with the L.A. Times, Elle magazine and close to 100 others.

Any anyone you like to work with in the future?

Jeantrix: We would like to work with any and everyone who is creative, inspiring, and edgy. In particular we would like to work with Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Andre Leon Talley, Katy Perry, and of course Lady Gaga to name a few.

What do you do outside of fashion design?

Jeantrix: Running the company is our full time job. Besides designing we do fashion show production, image consultation, and styling.

What's next for Jeantrix?

Jeantrix: Currently we are on a college tour and will be doing shows at certain schools such as Howard University and the University of Maryland eastern shore. Our next project after that is our online store (www.jeantrix.com) which will be launching black friday of this year (11/26). We also have a few celebrity projects in the works.

Any advice for those looking to pursue their fashion aspirations?

Jeantrix: Our advice would be to follow your dreams and passion. Be yourself and never copy what anyone else is doing. Also the most important thing you can do is remain positive. No matter what negativity comes your way, if you remain positive then you will attract more positivity into your life.
