WBM Features: Mr. Make Moves

Our business in life is not to get ahead of others, but to get ahead of ourselves-- to break our own records, to outstrip yesterday by our today.
-Stewart B. Johnson

How many rappers can say they've graduated college? Ryan Fleming a.k.a Mr. Make Moves is literally making moves in the industry. Not only is he an artist, but also is a CEO and entrepreneur. He runs and owns his own label with the ability to sign artists & producers, publish and license original music and make deals with major labels as well as joint ventures. Take a minute to get to know Ryan.

[As Told To Why Blue Matters]

So introduce yourself to us?

Mr. Make Moves: Ryan Fleming (<---facebook me)

Whats the difference between the real you and your stage persona?

Mr. Make Moves: The real me is very chill, down to earth and layed back, you wouldn't think I've ever yelled out loud a day in my life where as Mr. Make Moves is the voice to everything I'm thinking about during those chill layed back times, expressed with extreme creativity and nothing is held back!

How long have you been in the game?

Mr. Make Moves: I've been a fan and into music my entire life, did my first full mixtape at age 14 as a freshman in high school with my circle of sneaker heads, Took the game and dream 100% seriously at age 18

What's your greatest accomplishment so far in life?

Mr. Make Moves: Being the Independent, self motivated, confident and accomplished man and artist you are witnessing today! Also graduating both high school and College on time with all degrees/diplomas in hand while getting this music off the ground!

What's your ultimate goal in life?

Mr. Make Moves: Leaving a positive mark on the world that will influence the generations after me to be about progression, productivity, and innovation especially my future kids and down the family line.

What do you like most about being in the business?

Mr. Make Moves: The fact that music is indeed a business as well as talent and requires business moves to be made in all aspects. As an artist I am also a CEO and entrepreneur through running and owning my own label with the ability to sign artists & producers, publish and license original music and make deals with major labels as well as joint ventures.

What's the thought process behind your works?

Mr. Make Moves: Personal love and hate experiences, people very close to me (or I thought were) telling me not to do what im doing and literally hating on the positive and longevity i was trying to create out of music, Having little to no support around me starting out, then watching the non believers change sides when the tables turned. Personal thoughts on style, fashion, the world we live in and having that mind state thats 10 steps ahead of the competition.

Any bit of music involves some sort of creativity in my point of view, the more I push and motivate myself to cross boundaries the better and more versatile I feel I become, I've written full R&B records, R&B hooks, Rap verses and hooks for different female artists and produced hip-hop, R&B and Techno tracks. Creativity and clearing boundaries is a must to seperate yourself from the clutter of average music!

What inspires and motivates you?

Mr. Make Moves: The Dreams and goals I continuously envision, My surrounding environments, family, friends and proving to the doubters that I cannot be doubted!

How was life changed for you since being you started?

Mr. Make Moves: I have found personal happiness and satisfaction within myself through the comfort of knowing that this is what i want to do with my life, I can never stop growing, learning, and pushing myself in the world of music, business and networking becuase there is always so much to do and never a down or boring time for me. Always Moves to be Made!

What would you be doing now, if you never started doing music?

Mr. Make Moves: I just graduated from Radford University in early May 2010, so I would be putting my degree to use, specifically I would be in NY or LA working in the music industry due to my past internships.

What are you listening to in your ipod these days?

Mr. Make Moves: Mostly old school and 90s music both R&B and Hip Hop.

Mr. Make Moves: Takes me back to the days and helps me combine bits of those elements into the new age we live in, for all the 80s babies and back you know what I mean when I say "the days", I could go all day listing artists!

What has been your favorite job you've done so far?

Mr. Make Moves: I didn't start producing until 2008, so producing a third of my latest mixtape "Go In Season" with T.K. and Jay Croz taking the other 2/3 of the original production was a really big accomplishment for me, officially and formally stepping into the world of production. Earlier in 2010 I was able to make a few business moves with the soaring talent within my label which led to 4 of my producer Jay Croz's beats being licensed to the BET network to be used as background music in their new reality show "Model City" which aired on their newly launched Centric channel.

Does any negativity from the media ever affect you in anyway?
Mr. Make Moves: I came up in this music through hate and negativity surrounding me so I actually love it at this point, it is fuel to the creativity and domination that goes down in every studio session so please keep it coming! If they are talking about you they are thinking about you, which means they see what the F**K your doing!!!!

Any advice for those looking to pursue their dreams?

Mr. Make Moves: Self Motivation and Patience is the key when everyone is saying you cant you have to be the one who says you can and continue to move forward, its easier to give up and be forgotten but you are admired and looked up to for sticking with it. Set yourself up as early as possible in life then execute and chase that dream 100% ALL IN! Grind now, Laugh later.

What do you want to be remembered by?

Mr. Make Moves: Hard Work, Dedication and person who sees this world, life experiences and everything around me as opportunity and ways to progress not dwelling on stress, negativity or disappointment. Sh** Happens, Keep it Movin!

Anything else you would like the world to know about you?

Mr. Make Moves: There are no stop signs in my lane, thank you to anyone who has and will in the future mention my name in anything positive and those who take the time to listen and support the movement, 2 Words ---> "MAKE MOVES"!!!
