WBM Recognizes...

There's no real time exactly to let us know that the dreams we chase and the goals we're after provided we give our best, are ever fruitless or in vain. However, when it comes, recognition it seems is always right on time.

So on this day, Thursday, the 19th of August we would like to recognize the efforts and exceptional talents of recent WBM Feature, Cory Malcolm (Photographer/Model) who shot the cover and Ugo Mozie (Fashion Stylist) for their upcoming placement in the September/October issue of American Dreaming Magazine which hits Barnes And Nobel Bookstores Nationwide August 21st, 2010.

Continue stepping in the blue and being exemplary reasons Why Blue Matters. We appreciate your efforts and we recognize your accomplishments.

Beauty & Beyond With RoseMarie Reyes

Beauty is as beauty does. We're not remembered by what we
looked like but how we behaved and changed the lives of others.

-Cristina Carlino

Not too long ago, we had a chat with the bedazzling, temptress-meets-caramelized angelic face with the body to match. Her teeny-tiny calves extend several miles up to tiny thighs, which eventually meet up with a small but shapely Latin tush, which swivels with her hips below her fat-free waistline and real perky breast. Yes, we are talking about RoseMarie Reyes! She's back!!!

Reyes recently signed a major deal with a skincare line and is ready to clear rumors as to why she shut-the-doors of the urban market good-bye!

[As Told To Why Blue Matters]

We hear you've signed a deal with Flo' Claire Skincare. Congratulations! How important is it for you as a model to take care of your skin?

RoseMarie Reyes: Thanks WBM! being a model, looking after my skin is always a top priority of mine. There are makeup artists at the shoots, that'll treat your skin; but ultimately it's my responsibility to show up with a clean slate. Maintaining flawless skin means everything to me, my face has been my selling point through-out my modeling career; not a darn boob-job nor or a butt-implant (I don't have either)!

We're curious what ethnicity do people think you are?

RoseMarie Reyes: I love it when people come up to me and ask, "What are you?" I've heard everything African-American, Black, Puerto Rican, Asian-Mixed, Brazilian. Some people hit it right on "you're Dominican."

Those whom guessed it, it's probably because they heard you speak? In previous conversation we've have noticed a mixed accent of "Latin/Brooklyn"...

RoseMarie Reyes: Hahaha. It's true-if I'm comfortable, it comes out. It depends who I'm around, if I'm working or if I'm just hanging out in my hometown (Brooklyn).

Speaking about mixed nationalities and accents, do you believe in mixing business and pleasure?

RoseMarie Reyes: There’s bound to be love on and off-camera because models, actors, artists, etc. work closely on set together pulling 8-16 hours a day with each other, you spend such close time with each other and everyone is really pretty and very attractive. People just tend to gravitate towards each other. I don't believe that you walk-into a shoot and say, "Today I plan on mixing both"... That's not what happens!

On her devotion in-front of the camera; and even after post editing...

RoseMarie Reyes: I’m a control freak and am retarded about having everything the way I want it in terms of make-up, styling, and even re-touching! I will sit in the editing room with the photographer super-vising him, lol and won’t let anyone see the final images until I'm sure that my expectations are met. Then I’ll let my agents/mgr judge it. I’m not going to feel comfortable [with people] criticizing it unless I satisfy myself first.

In the past, rumors have swirled that you were no longer of interest to the urban market because you refused to enhance your assets? RoseMarie is there any truth in those "rumors"?

RoseMarie Reyes: I have no idea where and how these rumors began to circulate. Leaving the urban-market was by choice, I could still be in today if I wanted to. My ambitions and aspirations in life were bigger than simply watching myself in a video, or posing for a men's publication in little to no clothing. Not knocking the females that do it; many of them I know! Personally it wasn't my thing.

How different is life here in New York different, than back home?

RoseMarie Reyes: My parents are from Santiago, 2nd largest city in the Dominican Republic. I never lived there; but from my annual summer vacation I was able to learn how life there is. People are really slow there, they have work half a day and then go to the beach. They have time. Here in the big city people spend their time thinking about work and about money; they don't give some value to friendships, families, and relationships which can be depressing.

WBM Certified: CND Shellac (Fashion/Beauty)

Designed to last two weeks, new fashion/beauty product gives today's woman on the go the opportunity to get some of her time back while saving money in process.

Introducing Shellac by CND.

Rather than spending a crazy amount of time/money, rushing or having to stick it out because you don't have any, the great minds over at CND developed a hybrid composite that is hypoallergenic, 3-Free (formaldehyde, toluene or DBP), and has the look and feel of a nail polish but has the ability retain the look of freshly prepared nails for 14 days (around $40 to $45). What does this mean ladies??? This means days or nights for that matter of chipping, sheet marks, and anything else you can think of are long gone.

The Process

Interestingly enough, the application process isn't anything far from what most are accustomed to. Shellac is applied no different than regular polish using specially formulated base coat, two layers of color, and top coat. After each coat of polish is applied, one hand gets placed under the timed UV lamp while the other hand is being painted.

Removal. Quite simple. CND has developed finger wraps that within a matter of minutes allow the polish to remove with ease.

Pretty Cool, huh? To find out more about CND:

WBM Features: iLLSpire

Fashions fade, style is eternal.
-Yves Saint Laurent

In a world that's quickly becoming homogenous, it's often difficult to stand out and make your impression felt. There is for example and far too frequent it seems, this one, attempting to be like that one, that one trying to be like this one, which ironically enough causes individualistic movements to not be so individualistic and much like something else. Yet what's more interesting is that regardless of what "that one" or "this one" are, they're interchangable with the self expression of the arts and humanities.

On the other hand, there is one movement, out of The Garden State (New Jersey) beginning to grow while at the same time, becoming catalysts for a more ill lifestyle so to speak. Not in a sense of sick, but ill in the sense of better. iLLSPiRE Fashion Group as they're known is inspiring an individualized well being while looking great in the process.

Check out what was said and have an opportunity to know them a little better.

[As Told To Why Blue Matters]

Who is illSPiRE?

illSPiRE: iLLSPiRE means: inspiring people to live 'iller.' our goal is for you to stay cool, live fresh, & be ill. the illspire culture promotes no boundaries, no barriers to keep you from living life the way you decide. our brand allows you to express yourself in a fun and creative way, while paying tribute to the trends of the past. we stand by those who dare to be different, accept the challenges that stand before us, & embrace all who believe that life has no limits. welcome to our creation and we hope that you decide to live iLLSPiRE.

Where are you from?

illSPiRE: Jersey north to south.

What does fashion mean to you?

illSPiRE: Fashion to me is when you have the chance to express who you are without even speaking. Majority of people stereotype on first impression by what a person has on, and fashion gives you that chance to deliver that.

What would you consider your style of clothing?

illSPiRE: The style would be considered eye catching, meaningful, and inspiring.

What do you like most about being a fashion designer?

illSPiRE: The fact that i can take my visions put them down on paper and then have them transferred to clothing that someone can wear and express to countless viewers.

How did you develop illSPiRE Cause?

illSPiRE: iLLSPiRE came about with the vision that two cousins had when they came together and decided that they wanted to wear their own clothing and share them with others.

What inspires and motivates you?

illSPiRE: When iLLSPiRE first came about my inspirations were different than they are now. At the beginning it was the fact that the designs that were out at the time were either not appealing to me or I felt that I could make them myself. Now that iLLSPiRE has a following I feel that I keep going for them, the idea of them wanting more and helping me get my vision out is the fuel to keep my motor going.

Biggest accomplishment?

illSPiRE: I really do not know how to rate certain accomplishments over others. Every accomplishment is big to me, but to name some are being put into shops, invited to partake in multiple fashion shows, having an online shop, acquire a following.

How long have you been involved in fashion?

illSPiRE: iLLSPiRE officially launched in october of 2008.

What type of impact would you like to make with illSPiRE Cause?

illSPiRE: Sky is literally the limit. If you limit yourself then once you are approacing your goal you begin to decrease, but if you do not set a bar than you continue to strive for greatness.

What do you do outside of fashion design?

illSPiRE: Support positive movements. For example we have are associated with multiple dancers, Taeko Carroll, Jose Tena, Ian Eastwood. Also a skateboarder out of north jersey by the name of Pete lopez. Time to Time we get a poem from MJeanious and others.

Considering this is the top of the year, what are your plans for 2010?

illSPiRE: Do more of everything we did last year, double matter a fact triple what was done then. Do more fashion shows, get our product in more stores, get more people to join the movement.

Any advice for those looking to pursue their fashion aspirations?

illSPiRE: If you really have a dream then go ahead and make it a reality. If you REALLY want to persue fashion than nothing should hold you back. At times you may hit some road bumps that slow you down, but the further you keep going the more you shall see improvement. Positive people produce a positive outcome.

WBM Features: Mia Bauman (MUA)

Love of beauty is Taste. Creation of beauty is Art.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

As with anything we want to do in life (relationships, career, goals, dreams), it all comes down to one thing: CHOICE. We literally have to make up our mind and choose to will ourselves forward. We have to choose to pick ourselves up when we fall. We have to choose to overcome every obstacle that may come our way.

Choice as interesting, exciting, and scary as it may seem is the very thing that will either keep us where we're at currently, push us foward or hold us back. However, for our next WBM feature, Mia Bauman when faced with having to make a life altering decision, she chose to move he steps in the direction of what she is most passionate about.

Here to share a few words and some thoughts about passion and success, Mia Beauman chats with us.

Get to know her a little bettter.

[As Told To Why Blue Matters]

So tell me a little bit about yourself:

MB: I am from Corpus Christi, Texas!

Interest(s)?

MB: Mostly Makeup, film, reading (sci fi,) painting and music.

Explain for those who may not know what you do for clients

MB: I am a makeup artist, I am classically trained to make my clients their naturally beautiful selves. I also style hair, and I do some effects makeup.

What's your perspective on beauty?

MB: Beauty to me is about being healthy, clean, and vibrant!

What do you like most about being involved in fashion and beauty?

MB: Besides making people look amazing, and bringing out their best, I love meeting new people & making some magic happen! It's truly an art.

How long have you been involved?

MB: I started about a year ago. I was working before I left makeup school; I had my first jobs in April, 2009.

What did you do before becoming a mua?

MB: I was a portrait artist before, and I realised I should be doing makeup, it just came to me, that there are even better canvases out there! But it's different painting a face as a portrait than as makeup. In art, i painted what I saw, but as a makeup artist, I'm enhancing the subject & making it as beautiful as possible. And it can be challenging! There are different shapes & colors to work with... Not the same as painting what is already before me.

I understand, you also do special effects make up as well, how'd you get involved?

MB: I learned makeup effects in school. All makeup is effects, but what I really learned is how to glue things on, and what it feels like. It can be uncomfortable, and it's very difficult! It's also all about illusions.

How important are relationships and credibility in what you do?

MB: In this field it's about your contacts, who you know, so your personality & credibility is important. People want to be comfortable around you & also be able to rely on you!

What inspires and motivates you?

MB: Usually I will cruise other artists' work online, read blogs or watch youtube videos for inspiration or tips. Sometimes a job will challenge my skills, or I will watch a movie & desperately want a new lip color or blood product! Watching other makeup artists is also inspiring, they always have something you can learn. And fashion, art & makeup magazines are the best.

Biggest accomplishment?

MB: My biggest accomplishment was working at the Miss Universe Pageant, but really, every day I try something new, or manage something I couldn't before, or just have a really great shoot, I feel like I'm on the top of the world!

What would you do if you weren't involved with what you're doing currently?

MB: I would probably be doing something else in film, like camera work, or maybe I would have further pursued painting. I want to pick it up again anyways.

Where do you see yourself 5 yrs from now?

MB: I'd like to see myself getting good jobs like on Law & Order, or another show. I want to work in Spain or Italy as well. I really want to travel for work!

Any future projects?

MB: There's always future projects! Well, I am starting a graphic novel in a few weeks. It should be really interesting! http://www.countercomics.com/

What type of impact would you like to leave with your works?

MB: I hope to eventually be that person who inspires other makeup artists to go for it. I love meeting people who are just starting out, and I like to help connect them to their dreams. I also want to help promote great looking, healthy skin!

Any advice for those looking to pursue their business and styling endeavors?

MB: Well, definitely work every day, whether it's looking for new connections, testing, or emailing, or trying new products. Don't flake or be late, don't overwhelm yourself, and always have fun!

WBM Features: Red Glasses Sisters Boutique

Courage is a special kind of knowledge: the knowledge of how to fear what ought to be feared and how not to fear what ought not to be feared.
-David Ben-Gurion

How often do we hear about a company that really cares about the customer as well as the product? how often do we hear about 2 sisters starting a business together, and who both hold their own? We don't but we our now, its 2010 and the RG sisters are doing big things this year. They've created an online boutique where you can buy eyeglass frames, sunglasses, and get even personal styling and that's just a start.

Take a minute and get to know these sisters.

[As Told To Why Blue Matters]

So exactly what are you trying to do?

We're launching our online boutique so that we can add a little bit of our spices into the big melting pot of the fashion industry! lol. First, TheRedGlassesSisters.com will offer a wide selection of eyeglass frames, sunglasses, and even personal styling. Later on we'll branch off into clothes and other accessories!

What's the name of your project?

The Red Glasses Sisters' Boutique

What is your ultimate goal?

Our ultimate goal is to make people feel good about themselves. We want them to look good in our products and feel just as good on the inside! We want others who have a dream to know that all they need is passion and drive, then they can succeed. And success makes us feel great about ourselves! Why not look good doing it too?! lol

What does RED GLASSES SISTERS represent?

We represent unity. Though we are birth sisters we operate as one unit. Not all siblings can say that.

What all will you be selling on your online boutique?

We'll be selling an array of colored eyeglass frames: red, blue, pink, etc. In many different styles.

How long have you been doing this?

Well, we've been sisters all of our lives...lol! But we've been operating under the name The Red Glasses Sisters for about two years. A year ago we saw that RGS was getting a lot of hype, so we decided to launch an online boutique in 2010! We receive so many compliments for our style so we want to share a bit of US with the World!

What's your greatest accomplishment so far in life?

Keyondra's greatest accomplishment is her national recording gospel group, Zie'l! Be looking out for their 2nd album this year as well...! My greatest accomplishment, Kim speaking, hasn't yet been achieved, but in the spring of 2010 I'll graduate with a BS in Psychology!

Tell me a little bit about yourself:
Interest(s)?

Duh a girls favorite pass time SHOPPING!LOL We're also interested in doing volunteer work at our church, bowling, OMG we love Wii, and traveling! Of course Keyondra is in the Singing group but we both sing!!!!

What do you like most about being in the business?

We like the fact that we have become business savvy. Our parents have taken care of us all of our lives, and now being 23 and 25 it's time to provide for ourselves. No more hand outs from mommy and daddy!!!

What's the thought process behind your works?
From personal experience?

Watching our parents and our college education. Experience in these areas have provided us with preparation for the real world!

...mere creativity?

Our love for Fashion and New Trends... We adore the looks from other designers but we love putting our own spin on it!!! But being honest, nothing is new under the sun anyways!

What inspires and motivates you?

Our passion to succeed and give back to the community!

How was life changed for you since being you started?

OMG... We get approached by people asking about The Red Glasses Sisters who are excited that we're starting the business. Geez, funny you asked cause a guy spotted us in the Mall a while back and shouts, Hey Red Glasses Sisters... Honey the internet will make you famous!!! LOL...

What would you be doing now, if you werent doing this?

College alone... Boring!!! Education is so needed but we want to be well rounded in a variety of things!

Any advice for those looking to pursue their dreams?

Shoot for the highest and take the limits off! Believe in God and yourself and nothing is impossible!!!

What do you want to be remembered by?

Momma said it best, at the end of the day all you have is your name! We want folks to remember us for the class we posses as women! A women with class is well loved and praised for her character!!!

Anything else you would like the world to know about you?

We're fun, loving, and wanna stay true to self. We don't have it all together but we're striving to become greater! Oh and that WE Love WhyBlueMatters!!!

Eye Candy Couldn't Be More Sweet

"Love of beauty is Taste. The creation of beauty is Art."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

If the above quote is at least half true, what our next featurette, Owner/Stylist Lauren Moore of Eye Candy Beauty Studio makes available to the fashion and beauty communities is something truly extraordinary. She has the vision coupled with an insatiable passion for bringing the inner most beauty of her clients outward.

In an interview with WBM get closer look as to what makes Eye Candy so sweet.

[As Told To Why Blue Matters]

So tell me a bit about yourself?
Where are you from?

I am originally from Brooklyn, NY to the Hampton Roads Area of Virginia.

Interest(s)?

I have an interest in a lot of different things, it is so hard to choose just one; but I am a lover of music, writing, fashion and animals.

Explain for those who may not know what you do for clients.

I am a makeup artist and hair stylist. For EyeCandy Beauty Studio I assist models with building their portfolios. I also work along with photographers and A.J Supreme assisting models out of the Hampton Roads area get their foot in the door and assist them with getting exposure. We have a monthly feature titled “Supreme Candy”; a co- lab of both our businesses.

What’s your perspective on beauty?

As my motto goes for EyeCandy “Every woman is beautiful” my perspective on beauty is that a person that is truly beautiful comes from within. A person could be physically attractive but if they have a bad, negative or vain attitude that distracts from their physical beauty. I like my clients to look and feel beautiful and to know that the true definition of beauty does not reside with a size 2. To me beauty is when I am finished styling my clients and the look on their face when I am done; the glow and the smile they get warms my heart. It is like they have looked at them for the first time and say “Wow!” As they pose in the mirror and their self confidence is on high…that is beauty; a person’s completeness with themselves.

What do you like the most about being involved in fashion and beauty?

To touch on my last statement of my perspective of beauty is my favorite part of the industry making people look and feel their best. I love people to say “Thank you, I love it or I look pretty!” I also look and tell my clients that they look beautiful. I just love to make people feel good and I like to transform them.

How long have you been involved?

I have been involved in the industry for 5 ½ years. I started with Mary Kay and I wanted to do more hands on with clients which then transcended to working with a popular makeup line to Salons & Spas to freelance and now a growing business.

How important are relationship and credibility in what you do?

Very Important!! Even if you have nothing your name and reputation is all you have especially in this industry. My primary clients are from referral or word of mouth. So I make sure that my rapport and business relationships are very open and pleasant. If something happens out of my control I try to be innovative and creative to fulfill my obligations. There is always a plan B; my client’s satisfaction is very important to me.

What inspires and motivates you?

Certain people in my inner circle like my close family and friends that always give me sound reasoning and advice. They also encourage me to stay balance and to keep going when I’m feeling low or when the haters arise.

Biggest accomplishment?

My biggest accomplishment is more on a personal level. My son was born extremely early. I was five months pregnant when he was born. At birth he was only 1lb. Through all of the trails, sickness, surgeries and drama, I am proud to say not only did I make it but only made it with the help of God and my family. The day I got my son ready for his first day of school was most defiantly a blessing.

What would you do if you weren’t involved with what you’re doing currently?

I would probably still be working in the Banking and Financial industry as a Financial Advisor for New York Life. I previously worked there holding my Life and Health License. I would also be trying to get my licensure in brokerage.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years I hope that EyeCandy will be a household and brand name and would be working with TV/Film doing my artistry.

Any Future Projects?

Yes there are future projects AJ Supreme and I have a surprise coming up in April 2010 for the aspiring model out there. VERY BIG! I will definitely keep you updated with the information as the project comes together. Also we are looking to release a calendar for our Supreme Candy models in 2011.

What type of impact would you like to leave with EyeCandy Beauty?

I would like people to know that EyeCandy is a diverse company that follows their motto that “Every Woman is Beautiful”. Creating and advocating positive self esteem in teens and woman of all ages.

Any advice for those looking to pursue their business and styling endeavors?

Do your homework! Even if your talent is stellar make sure to do your research on the business end. Keep up to date with trends and new business law. Also if you decide to start your business with a partner make sure that you really know them and their intentions. Remember there is never an “I” in team, keep open communication and keep your affairs and agreements in writing.

How far would you go to hustle for your dreams?

UnDezCovered

Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.
-Abraham Lincoln

At times, it seems the work put toward obtaining goals and dreams are fruitless. We work and work and work some more, not realizing the seeds we sow move us closer to where we need to be. The easy thing would be to give up. You can't, especially if that's not what what your intentions are. However, where hard work meets a focus mind, the combination results in bountiful harvest of success.

Take Texas native, Deziree Ramirez for example. She since an early age knew that in order to get what others don't she had to do what others won't to acquire success. With just as much experience as she has had success, Deziree is just getting started. The hustle never stops, neither will Ms. Ramirez.

[As Told To Why Blue Matters]

So Tell Me A Little About Yourself:

Well, I'm 26 years of age and I am Persian, British and Mexican. I live here in Dallas, Texas, but was born in Amarillo, Texas.

Interests
:

When I'm not modeling, I love to read. : ) I love playing all sports, shooting hoops, and just anything that contains the outdoors since I'm from West Texas. I grew up a wild child, meaning I was always outside doing adventurous things.

What do you like most about being a model?

I love meeting new people. I have come across many people in different industries that I have worked with, including artists like Kurupt, Slim Thugg, Gemini, Chingo Bling and the list goes on. As far as Modeling & Fashion Industry there is no where to start. I have worked with so many people. I also love to travel. I have been to many nice places, although when I get lonely from being on the road, I write to all my fans that take the time out to keep me busy with fan mail.

What Inspires You?

All my fans. Sometime, I tend to forget that I am a model when I am just having some personal time-- and if a fan sees me they begin to start a conversation and wanting to know more about me and of course if I can give them my autograph. So yeah, that sometimes makes me feel like Woah. I am so grateful to everyone who has stuck with me through this journey.

How long have you been involved in modeling?

I started off Modeling when I was 14. At the time I was living in Amarillo, TX and I was then signed on with a Modeling Agency in Dallas by the name of Kick 277. At the age of 18, I began modeling professionally in New York with Internationally known Ford Models, and soon left for an internship for my Grandfather's clothing line.

I understand you're a fashion designer, please do tell...

Yes, I began working for my Grandfather's fashion line entitled, "Cache" and "Lillie Rubin." My Grandfather was the founder of the line and soon sold the line to a managment company. After my Grandfather's passing, I began working on my own line, something that was indescribable.

How have you been able to balance what you do?

Now that is where the name Undezcovered came in. Being in two successful industries is hard to give both the 100% that you have to. Fashion is a year round process and my modeling career is based on how much I wanna do. This year I have released 2 workout DVD's and been on promotional tour twice, launched my home line that is being featured at Bed Bath And Beyond Locations and will be featured in Playboy for the 6th time in October, then a following issue in February. So I stay very very busy!

Biggest Accomplishment?

Being where I am today. It took me many years to be able to acheive all these goals that I set my mind to conquer.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

I am the type of person that lives day by day. You never know what tomorrow will bring. We'll just have to see.

Any future projects?

Yes, I would love to start acting. I have already been on the small screen and been on MTV's Room Raiders, MTV's NEXT, Elimidate, Prison Break and Without A Case. I also started shooting my reality TV show with the Oxygen Channel but that was pulled off the air due to personal matters.

What type of impact would you like to leave?

I would just like to let everyone know no matter what race, sex, or whatever life you choose, you can be the best at everything as long as you have faith and never take anything for granted.

Any advice for those who would like to pursue their modeling aspirations?

Enjoy life each day as a new adventure awaits you and conquer the Journey you were set to do. If there are times where it gets hard, find a different route to cross the path but make sure it's the path to Victory.

For More On Deziree Ramirez:
