WBM Features: PRIMO

Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends.
-Alphonse de Lamartine

WBM presents PRIMO, a new duo coming out of California made up of artists, Deezy and Ad who are trailblazing a new movement while at the same time trying to create a new sound to reinvent Hip Hop. Diversity is the main component of their lifestyle and is also what makes their musical expression unique. Their motto "Art over money, progression over everything" speaks heavily and is the credo they stand by.

Fresh of the release of their debut album "Lint Season" PRIMO was able to grab some time with WBM.

Take a minute and get to know them.

[As Told To Why Blue Matters]

What are your goals for 2010?

Primo: We’re working on our untitled second album while promoting for our debut album entitled Lint Season, which just dropped. A big goal for us this year is to reach out to as many people as possible, let people get to know us. We’re looking for an audience that is ready for a new kind of hip-hop. And of course we are looking to progress. Progress, progress.progress…

Introduce yourselves

Primo: We are two artists from Sacramento, CA. Some pretty cool kids with a lot of passion. We grew up around a lot of diversity, which has molded us into some open minded and creative young men.

Whats the difference between the real you and your stage persona?

Primo: There’s no real difference. Our stage persona is us, but amplified.

What's your greatest accomplishment so far in life?

Primo: Starting this Primo legacy. We feel like we brought together our families and closest friends to do what we each do best. It’s rewarding.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:
Interest(s)?

Primo: Partying, girls, 40 ounces, weed, having fun, mix’n it up, learning about different cultures....etc. We are interested in a wide range of things, but there’s a few crucial interests. One thing we know for sure is that it’s really fucking hard to describe ourselves.

What do you like most about being in the business?

Primo: The grind and getting better.

What's the thought process behind your works?
...from personal experience?
...mere creativity?

Primo: We use both personal experiences and creativity. We’re constantly communicating amongst each other, creating imagery with psychedelic landscapes to describe our emotions from personal experiences.

What inspires and motivates you?

Primo: We motivate each other mainly, but we are also heavily motivated by people coming up to us whether it is at a party or a show and them saying, “Yo, you guys are dope and I feel you.” Thats what keeps us moving. If that stops, we might as well stop. We wouldn’t be helping anybody out, especially ourselves.

How was life changed for you since being you started ?

Primo: We feel like we have a purpose. We feel accomplished even though we are just starting. And it feels like every time we see people we haven’t seen in a while, they bring up our music.

What would you be doing now, if you never started doing music?

AD: I’d probably be away at a university living the college life.
Deezy: I’d be traveling somewhere.

What are you listening to in your ipod these days?

Primo: The Recovery by Eminem, Grey Oceans by CocoRosie, Wiz khalifa Kush and Orange Juice, LP4 by Ratatat, and Drake’s Thank Me Later

...Why?

Primo: Because they’re dope, and new. All of them are amazing artists and some of our favorite.

Any advice for those looking to pursue their dreams?

Primo: Don’t try to please everyone, you’ll only hurt yourself in the end. One day what you’re doing will be cool to a lot of people.

What do you want to be remembered by?

Primo: Two great artists
