Pushing Forward

Don't go into something to test the waters, go into things to make waves.

-Anonymous

Poised. Determined. Focused. Confident. These are all characteristics of someone who not only has an idea what he or she wants but in fact knows what he or she wants to acquire from life. It requires certain type of disposition, mindset and most importantly and level of desire high enough to pull the stars out the sky.

However, at the same time requires a push with a force so great nothing will come in between what's sought after most. Pushing forward with the energy of more than most his age combined, Carmine Davis moves in pursuit of his dreams.

His goal: to make a significant impact with his words and his actions. His method of choice: music. That's his push, and also what keep him pushing forward. Here with a little insight of what of it means to follow your heart, pursue ones dreams, and being an artist Carmine Davis shares his thoughts.

[As told to Why Blue Matters]

So tell me a little bit about yourself:

I'm Carmine Davis and I'm an all around entertainer. I sing, dance, act, write, produce, and I'm involved in a few philanthropy projects.

As long as I can remember, I've always dreamed of becoming an entertainment icon! This chapter of my life is me overcoming adversities, naysayers, and learning absolutely everything I can to become what I've always dreamed.

Interest(s)?

Aside from entertaining, I'm into reading! I can be extremely silly! I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family. I listen to music all damn day! Hahaha. I'm attached to my Blackberry. I just love getting to know myself, entertaining and helping others!

What can you most attribute your musical ability to?

Probably the fact that I was raised around a musical/performing family! All of us are natural entertainers and comedians. That's how I mainly remember my family getting through things: music, laughter, and prayer.

I love music so much. When I listen to music, I learn. From my favorite artists' vocal techniques to their production styles! I just sit back and learn.

What's your genre of music?

Pop/Dance/R&B/Hip-Hp/Soul/Rock

Who are you influenced by?:

Artists like Beyonce, The King Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, TuPac, Lady Gaga, Lenny Kravitz, Prince, Luther Vandross, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Biggie, Alicia Keys... I could go on all day!

What do you like most about being a singer/songwriter?

Just the way you can relate to people. You know how you can sit back and cry, laugh, dance, and think because of a song? That's what makes music so powerful. How it can make you FEEL. That's why I love this so much.

What's the thought process behind your works?

It varies. Songs like "Autograph" are songs out of creativity. See, what people don't know is there is a secret meaning of the word "Autograph" that I don't think people caught on to. Some have and others haven't caught on. It's a little dirty, so I won't say in this particular interview, but songs like that come from creativity.

There are other songs I write that come from personal experiences: pain, joy, sorrow, love, & hate. Sometimes I write about what my friends are going through. It really just depends.

What inspires and motivates you?

I think the fact that, no matter how much I try, I couldn't go a day without music. I can't think of my future and not see me touching millions of people. I can't see me NOT becoming an icon. I'll work as hard as it takes to make that a reality. It means so much to me.

And another thing is the haters. The haters are your biggest motivation. Hello, haters! hahaha.

How long have you been involved in music?

Since I was 6. So about 12 years now.

What type of impact would you like to leave with your music?

I just want to be an African American male act that brings something so brand new to the table. I don't want to stick to the status quo in this industry...I want to re-write it. Do something completely different. Whether it's my image or my sound, I want to constantly re-invent myself and broaden my horizons!

What would you do if you weren't involved in music?

I can't even imagine! I've always wanted to do THIS. Every since I was eight I knew that this is what I wanted to be.

Any future projects?

Yes! So many! Right now we're working on the official first single with a few amazing producers. And I'm also getting ready to do a lot of live shows. So much stuff is going to be happening! You've just gotta follow me to see how things go.

Any advice for those looking to pursue their musical endeavors?

No matter what anyone says...keep doing what YOU love to do. You'd be surprised how great things will turn out if you get out of your comfort zone, stand up and be noticed! Do what you always dreamed of and let NO ONE tell you "you can't"!
